El Calafate - Patagonia Argentina

El Calafate: Located beside Argentino lake, in Santa Cruz province, Patagonia Argentina. This town has become well known through the years since it is the entrance door to one of the most important places on earth, 'Los Glaciares' National Park. This Park holds more than 300 glaciers, including the famous Perito Moreno which is the only one to keep growing, and declared by the UNESCO as World Heritage Centre in 1981. With 5 kilometers wide and 60 meters high the front wall of the glacier advances on Magallanes peninsula dividing the water of the lake in two halves, acting as a dike and holding the water of the northern part of the lake. As time passes the water level goes higher producing a lot of pressure on the ice wall, causing the water to undermine the ice and finally breaking the huge wall which falls down in a unique spectacle attracting people from all over the world.
There are other important glaciers like Upsala, Spegazzini and Onelli, they can be abserved in a full day cruise excursion navigating the Argentino lake on modern boats.

After breakfast at the hotel we depart toward the Glaciers National Park travelling the route # 11 skirting the main part of the lake Argentino heading to Rica arm. After a short stop at the entrance of the Park in order to pay the corresponding fee we'll continue on the same route heading to “Curva de los Suspiros”, where we'll step down off the vehicle to see for the first time...		After breakfast at the hotel we leave by Route 11 toward Los Glaciares National Park. Bordering the main body of Lake Argentino to Punta Bandera, where, upon payment of the Park entrance fee, we board a modern catamaran to sail between the icebergs on the north and Upsala arms heading to the namesake glacier.
