EXCURSION TO FUERTE BULNES

Leave Punta Arenas toward the south skirting Magellan's Strait; in the kilometer 51 you’ll get to the monolith that points out the Geographical Center of Chile, between Arica and the South Pole. 5 kilometers of that point is located Fuerte Bulnes, that has been founded in 1843 on Santa Ana's muzzle, with a very good panorama on the strait. After some years, the population of this fortification was transferred to where Punta Arenas was founded. A couple of more kilometers to the south, you will arrive to the outlet of the river San Juan in Magellan's strait. This river, of very good fishing, has in its banks some summer facilities.

To the Natural Monument ‘Los Pingüinos’: in the Island Magdalena. The barges leave from the jetty or from ‘Tres Puentes’ toward the north by the Magellan's strait until arriving at the island Magdalena. During the walk inside the island you will be able to see big colonies of different birds and one of the biggest penguin places in the south of the continent, of Magellan's variety penguins. You will also be able to visit the lighthouse of the island, in which will find a Center of Environmental Interpretation.
To the southern patagonic archipelago: this trip is expensive. It is necessary to go aboard from 3 to 7 days in trips that leave toward the south, in deluxe ship, to travel the confines of South America: channel of Beagle, the glaciers Parry, Marinelli, Serrano, Pía and Garibaldi. They also visit one another the cities of Port Williams, in the island Navarino (Chile) and Ushuaia in the Republic Argentina. This trip will allow you to visit unique landscapes in the planet and of an extraordinary beauty.

Was established in 1990 in order to operate tourist cruises in the Patagonia region including Argentina and Chile destinations. The Mare Australis was until now the only ship in this operation, it was built in 2002 in Asenav navy facilities located in Valdivia. For the incoming season the Via Australis Expedition cruise will act as the Mare Australis new brother with same features. Both cruises will navigate the Magellan straight, the Beagle channelpe Horn, exploring one of the most beautiful virgin areas in the world, like the Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.
There are two different choices, a 3 or a 4 night program from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas and viceversa, from September to April. Mare Australis information below.
